This summer the big trends in childrenswear will be inspired by the great outdoors.

Swallows and Amazons, the book by Arthur Ransome, will be key to the biggest trends in kid's fashion this season.

Polo shirts, cardigans and nostalgic playwear are all options parents can explore for their youngsters, explains Prue White from the Times.

She said that a number of fashion houses are now making miniature versions of their most popular adult pieces for trendy children.

Marc Jacobs and Chloe are just two brands offering girls clothes in the style of successful adult lines.

On the high street lots of childrenswear retailers are producing on-trend clothes for little people, with many stores rotating their stock every few weeks to keep up with demand from fashion-forward youngsters.

The expert also commented that children no longer need "to become Little Lord Fauntleroys or be-frilled Shirley Temples to look well-dressed".

"Tomboys, princesses, skater boys, young men about town – all are catered for" on the high street, White added.
